DWG 01 / The job
Presses, then the rest of the line.
A press out of register, a unit that showed up and still needs to be leveled, a transfer that jams after a move. We install, level, troubleshoot, commission, and retrofit automated production lines. Printing presses are the machines we put first.

What we do on the floor
01
Printing press service
Setup, alignment, mechanical repair, installs, and retrofits on the presses you already run.
02
Machine installation, leveling, and alignment
Receive it, set it, level it, and line it up so it stays that way.
03
Troubleshooting and breakdown repair
Find the cause, then fix it. Mechanical, electrical, and controls.
04
Line commissioning and startup
The risky stretch is between delivery and a stable production run.
05
Retrofits on automated lines
Change the line you have so it can keep running.
06
Machining and part repair
Lathe and mill work when the missing part is why the line is down.
DWG 03 / Why this company
Why the whole fix stays with us
01
One company, the whole fix
Diagnosis, installation, leveling, and startup stay with Smith Mechanical Field Services. The same company that finds the cause sets the machine and stays through a running line.
02
OEM-neutral
We fix what you already have. We work direct for the plant or as a sub for an OEM or integrator.
03
We come equipped
The tools for the line come to the job. The visit is to do the work.
04
Photos and notes
You get a written record of what was found and what was done before we leave.

Lathe, mill, and the line
General manufacturing and machine shops
Installs, breakdowns, and parts made because the original is gone.
Controls and the machine
Commercial automation
The PLC is not a separate trade from the iron it runs.
DWG 05 / Sequence
Call. Look. Fix. Run.
01
Tell us what's wrong
Form, photos, or a call. Machine type, make and model, and what the line is doing.
02
A look, then a quote
Phone or video first when that saves a trip. We quote the work and the travel before we roll.
03
On site
Diagnose, repair, install, or level. Machine a part on site when that is what the line needs.
04
Back in production
The line runs, and you get a written report with photos and notes.

The shape of a job write-up
Real photos and plant names are not on this site yet. One card is the example from the site plan. The others are empty until a real job replaces them.

- Problem
- The unit will not hold register after a move.
- What we did
- Level and align the press, reset the transfer, and stay through a startup check.
- Result
- Sample outcome for the shape of a write-up. Not a finished job.

Straight answers
Do you work on printing presses?
Yes. That is the work we put first. Setup, alignment, mechanical repair, installation, leveling, commissioning, and retrofits on printing and converting equipment.
Do you travel?
Yes. Smith Mechanical Field Services works on-site, wherever your line is. We travel to the plant across California, the West, and nationwide when the job calls for it. An exact mile radius is not published, because that number has not been set.
Do you take emergency calls?
Yes. If the line is down, call or text, and mark the request form as line down now. Line-down work comes first. The phone number on this site is a placeholder until it is replaced, so use the form if the number still reads (000) 000-0000.
Do you work as a sub for OEMs and integrators?
Yes. We work direct for the plant or as a subcontractor for an OEM or integrator. One point of contact, and the advice stays with the equipment you already have.
Do you weld?
Welding is a supporting capability. When a bracket, guard, or frame has to be repaired as part of getting a machine running, we can do that work, including stainless where a food plant needs it, steel, and aluminum.
